Berge O. Lee - Fort Juelson
After the Civil War, Berge and Olina (Ellen) settled in Otter Tail County in west central Minnesota. During the Indian Scare of 1876, settlers met at the home of Peter Juelson to discuss how to defend themselves. It was decided that a fort should be constructed and Berge and another Civil War Veteran, Hans Juelson, were given the responsibility of determining where a fort should be built and supervising its construction.
Berge Olson is a featured character in a book about Fort Juelson.
Fort Juelson and the Indian Scare of 1876 by Clifford Knutson is available for purchase on-line from the Otter Tail County (MN) Historical Society. The cost of the book is $12.00
